It is with most sincere sympathy that we formally announce the passing of Mother Sarah Gurley of Reno, Ga. Mother Gurley passed December 14, 2017, at her residence.  

Sarah Jane Butler Gurley was born on July 4, 1935 to Mr. Walter Butler, Sr. and Mrs. Leo Harvin Butler in Gadsden County, Fl.  She departed her earthly life on Thursday, December 14, 2017 at her residence, in Reno, Ga.

At a very young age, she accepted Jesus Christ as her lord and savior and joined the Saint Luke Primitive Baptist Church of Reno, Ga.  She was a very faithful, reliable, and dedicated church member serving under the leadership of Elder T.L. Geter, Elder Moses Harrison, and Elder Larry J. Brown until her health began to fail.  Mother Sarah Jane loved church as she served and supported this part of her family in many various roles and capacities, such as “Chairman of the Mother’s Board”, “Church Financial Secretary”. “Vacation Bible School coordinator”, Member of the Sr. Choir/Choir #1”, “Visionary founder of the Jr. Choir/Choir #2’, and assist with preparing meals for church functions.  Although her health continued to decline, Mother Sarah Jane still did what she could under the leadership of Elder Freddie C. Anderson, Sr.

            Mother Sarah Jane was employed with the W. B. Roddenberry Company-Peanut Butter Department of Cairo, Ga. as a quality control inspector. She had a very kind, loving, and gentle spirit.  She had several nicknames, some being “Say”, “Sa-Jane”, and most affectionately “Nane-Nane”.  She loved reading (mainly The Holy Bible and Sunday School Lessons), writing, and doing crossword puzzles on a daily basis.  She had a great passion for cooking, sewing, and fishing all of which she was very good at.

            Mother Sarah Jane was united in Holy Matrimony to Mr. Willie OC Gurley, Sr.  She leaves to cherish her very precious memories:  A loving, caring and devoted husband of 63 years, Deacon OC Gurley, Sr., Reno, Ga; children, Nettie Williford and Doris Corker, Cairo, Ga., Ginger Gurley, Willie Ette Gurley and Willie OC Gurley, Jr., Reno, Ga.; Grandchildren; Marilyn (Osie) Smith, Camilla, Ga., Latoisha (William) Brown, Carlos (Andreka) Williford, Kevin (Malicia) Corker, MarQuelle (Alphonzo) Hopkins, Cairo, Ga. and Allendria (Cedric) Adams, Greenville, Nc., Sister; Hattie (Odell) Helms, Tampa, Fl., Sisters and Brothers in-laws; Ocie Butler, Tampa, Fl., Mamie L. Addison, Whigham, Ga., Harry Gurley, Albany, Ny., Lois Gurley, Reno, Ga., Emmaline Gurley, Calvary, Ga., Rosa Gurley, Tampa, Fl., Alice Gurley, Betty (Luke) Lurry, Billy (Helen) Gurley, Betty Gurley, Tommie (Jerry) Copeland, Cairo, Ga.  Laura Mae Gurley and Charlie (Bettye) Gurley, Havana, Fl., Godchildren; Regeina Lidette (Mike) Butler Smith, Tampa.
