It is with deep sympathy and respect that the staff and management of Cloud Funeral Home announce the passing of the late:
Sister Lovetta "PeeWee" Stephens of Cairo, Ga. entered the sunset of life on Monday, April 29, 2019.
Mrs. Lovetta Hampton Stephens was born July 17, 1938 to the late Zema Sr. and Sarah Hampton in Whigham, Georgia. As a young woman, she graduated from Washington High School then married J.D. Stephens on November 21, 1959. Their union produced five daughters, Hazel Stephens McFadden of Warner Robins, Verleca Stephens Lalor (Sterling) and Marilyn Stephens Harris of Atlanta, Zena Stephens Howard (Benjamin) of New Mexico, and Stephanie Diane Stephens of Atlanta. She also leaves behind four sisters: Louise Williams Bishop, Barbara Jones, and Edna Hampton of Philadelphia, and Bertha Fisher (Bernard) of Wilmington, Delaware and two brothers: Terry and Jerry (Angela) Hampton of Cairo, GA. Also mourning her loss are seven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Lovetta was affectionately called “Peewee” by many family and friends even though she did not always like it. In September 1998, she retired from Ingersoll-Rand Company, leaving many friends behind as she did everywhere she went. She became mission president of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church focusing her life on the church, giving to others and her family. Lovetta was a loving and caring wife, mother, aunt, sister, granny, great grandmother, advisor and friend to so many.
She was preceded in death by her parents and five siblings — Eva Mae Myles, Earlene Stephens, Ethel Boyd, Zema Hampton Jr., and Edward Hampton.
Her life will be remembered and celebrated by all.
