"God sees when all footsteps falter; when the path has grown too steep. Then He touches the weary eyelids and gives His daughter sleep, and so it was"..
It is with most sincere sympathy that we formally announce the passing of Mother Annie Gibson who transitioned from this life on Friday, February 10, 2023
Annie Pearl Neal-Gibson (affectionally known as “Suk”) was born in Decatur County, Georgia on May 18, 1924, to Ed and Mary Joe Laster-Neal, the third youngest of 10 children.
She met and was married to Lewis Gibson, Sr. after moving into the Grady County area, known as Swamp Creek Road at the age of 16. They shared 68 wonderful years. He preceded her in death in 1984. To this union 9 children were born four of which also preceded her in death.
Annie Pearl at an early age became a member of Mt. Moriah #1 Church with her parents. Later she became a truly dedicated member of St. Mary AME Church for many, many years where she served as Usher President for 62 + years before relinquishing that role to another staff member, but never lessen or released her calling and desire to serve others. Annie during the last few years of her life became a dedicated and enthusiastic member of Fresh Start Global Outreach Ministries, where she was an encouraging light in the congregation.
Annie Pearl was a dedicated employee of Wight Nursery in Cairo, GA for 35 years and a devoted farmer all at once. Whenever Annie harvested her crops, she made sure others shared in that harvest. Caring for others, she made her rounds in her trusty pickup truck dropping off vegetables to family and friends. This double task she did, most time by herself, until it became hazardous to her safety being in a field away from home alone. She was a strong woman in every sense of the word.
Annie Pearl had 3 favorite saying: “I may be hopping, but I ain’t Stopping”;
“99 ½ won’t do, I’ve got to make a 100”; and “This is the dressing up room down here, you have got to go to heaven from down here.”
