Services for Charlie Adams of Cairo will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, September 14, 2012 at Greater New Corinth Missionary Baptist Church in Cairo. Rev. Morris Evans, Pastor with Rev. Sylvester Williams officiating services. Interment will follow at Forrest Lawn Cemetery in Cairo with Mr. Adams' nephews serving as pallbearers. Mr. Adams was born on August 3, 1927 in Calvary to the late Willie and Gertrude Adams. He was a member of Greater New Corinth Missionary Baptist Church and attended Grady County Public Schools. Mr. Davis married the late Mrs. Velma Davis on July 22, 1950 and their union would continue until the time of her passing on January 31, 2012. He was a lifetime resident of Cairo and he departed this life on Thursday, September 6, 2012 at Archbold Memorial Hospital in Thomasville. Survivors to cherish his memory include his daughter Beverly Drew (Dr. James) of Boston; grandsons Justin Drew (Kaneshia) of Atlanta, Jerel L. Drew of Asheville, N.C.; great grandchildren Jordan Drew, Armyia Drew and Caleb Drew all of Atlanta; brothers Grover Adams (Barbara) of Attapulgus, Rev. Leonard Adams (Pauline) of Swaford, TX, Leamon Sims, Jr. (Willie) of Dallas, TX and Bobby Sims (Bryna) of Cairo; sisters Leola Adams (Toney) of Albany and Mary H. Sims of Crestview, FL; sisters-in-law Lucille Gordon and Doris Lewis (Gordon) both of Cairo, Ella M. Wilson of Pelham, Annie Davis Flowers of Climax, Martha Davis and Laynett Davis both of Whigham, Lillian Thornton of Jersey City, N. J. and Helen Gurley of Cairo; brothers-in-law Nathanel Davis, Walter Davis and Leonard Davis all of Whigham; special nephews Derek Gordon of Dallas, TX; Varrick Glass of Carrollton, TX and Kenny Young of Crestview, FL; special nieces Sabrina Young of Albany, Teresa (Tee) Gurley Sigler, Yolanda (Net) Gurley and Janice Davis all of Cairo; special friend Rev. Larry Garland and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by sisters Willie Mae Adams and Alice McCalister and brother Clifford Gordon, Sr.
