“God sees when all footsteps falter; when the path has grown too steep. Then He touches the weary eyelids and gives His daughter sleep, and so it was.”.
With most sincere sympathy, we formally announce the passing of Sister Ella Mae Jackson, who transitioned from this life on Sunday, May 26, 2024.
Ella Mae Jackson was born to the late Harrison Walker, Sr., and Sallie Mae Bradwell (Walker) in Decatur County, Georgia, on July 21, 1929. At an early age, she confessed Christ and joined Douglas Temple First Born Church. She later served as a Mother in Christ at Lamar Street Church of God and Christ in Bainbridge, Georgia.
Our beloved Ella departed this life on Sunday, May 26, 2024.
Ella was not a stranger to hard work, commitment, and sacrifice. She was the co-owner of Jackson Lumber Company, Jackson Produce, Sweet Jack’s Restaurant, and Jackson Collectibles and Antiques with her beloved husband, Jack. The Jackson duo built a strong legacy that carries on the Jackson name.
Ella had an immense love for family and friends with whom she spent much time. She was a dedicated and loving wife to her late husband. You could often find her fishing with her sons, playing
Scrabble with the grandkids or visiting “the elderly,” as she affectionately would say. Her daughters are amazing in the kitchen because she taught them all her cooking secrets. She lived a full life with no regrets. You could still find her driving around town, sitting, joking with her many sons, and watching her favorite shows. She was passionate about cooking, baking, reading, and
solving crossword puzzles. Her buttery pound cakes and biscuits were a highlight in the Jackson household. To know her was to love her! Her love and compassion extended to all who knew her.
She will be forever remembered for her infectious smile and vibrant personality.
In some of her last moments, she was not shy about sharing God’s goodness, grace, and favor in her life. Her love for Christ was evident as she spoke boldly and confidently about being with God and the loved ones who passed before her. “Whatever the good Lord as for me, I am ready,” she would say; “Don’t cry for me; laugh, love, and celebrate my memory.” 94 years of God’s favor is a blessing.
Ella leaves to cherish her memory: two devoted sisters, Leona Davis of Skokie, IL, and Josephine Phillips of Toms River, NJ; six loving children, Patricia Newkirk, Pamela Newkirk, Willie James Jackson, Jr. (Evelyn), Enoch Jackson (Rita), Elaine Payton (Oneil), and Frankie Jackson (Lillie); 13 grandchildren; and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Her husband, Willie James Jackson, Sr., and son, Nehemiah Jackson, preceded her death. Rest in peace, our queen; you will forever be remembered in our hearts.
