Essie Mae Brooks Harrison departed her earthly life peacefully on Thursday, August 28, 2014 at Bloomfield Healthcare Center, Bloomfield, CT. She was born March 25, 1923 in River Junction, Fl. and was the daughter of Thomas J. Brooks Jr. (Dora Lee) and Dora Walker Freeman (Amos).
She was united in holy matrimony in November 1938 to the late Perry Harrison in Decatur County, Ga. and to this union there were seven children born. "Mama" as she was affectionately known enjoyed daily evening walks when the weather permitted until her health declined. While she resided at Bloomfield Healthcare, she kept herself busy by visiting other residents and taken advantage of all there was to offer. There were plenty of times when we would visit and we would have to go searching for her. She was known to be a protector, feisty and strong-willed.
Essie accepted Christ early in her life and was a member of St. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church. She also loved to sing her hymns and read the bible.
Beside her parents she was preceded in death by her daughter Ruby L. Robinson and her siblings Fuller Reed, Douglas, Robert and Hubert Brooks; and Lois Brooks Ealey.
She leaves to cherish her legacy of love her children Benjamin Harrison of Pinellas Park, Fl; Herbert, Drucilla, and Cynthia Harrison all of Bloomfield, CT.; son-in-law Joseph Robinson Sr. of Bloomfield, CT; her brother Herbert Brooks of Atlantic City, New Jersey; grandchildren Aaron Harrison of Philadelphia, PA.; Joseph Robinson Jr. (Elarka) of Manchester, CT; Mark Robinson, Sr. (Evelyn) of Windsor, Ct.; Towanda Robinson (Nyger) of Hartford, CT.; Pamela and Crystal Harrison; and Adrienne Hurst all of Bloomfield, CT. Seven great grandchildren she loved dearly Kamari and Khyrin Williams, Camrin and Caydin Francois, Mark Jr., Bria and Jade Robinson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends.
