Johnnie Washington Obituary

With a humbled hearts, we the staff and management of Cloud Funeral Home announce the passing of Mrs. Johnnie Mae Washington.  Mrs. Washington passed on Wednesday, July 3, 2019 at her residence.

Johnnie Mae Jenkins Washington, daughter of the late Willie and Lucille Jenkins was born on February 8, 1923 in Cairo, Georgia.  She is the second eldest of eleven children, all of which maintained a very close relationship throughout their lives.  Johnnie Mae received her education from Grady County Schools in Cairo.  She grew up working alongside her family on the farm until she later met and married her soulmate, George Washington.

Johnnie Mae Jenkins entered into the holy covenant of marriage with George Washington on April 12, 1041 in Cairo, Georgia.  God blessed them with a large family.  George and Johnnie Mae were blessed with fourteen children, all of which they raised with discipline, patience, and humility.  Their marriage lasted for 71 years before God call George home in 2012.

Her relationship with God has always been important part of Johnnie Mae's life.  She gave her life to Christ at an early age.  She gave her services to many ministries within the church such as serving as a missionary and later the Mother of the church.  Many souls were saved under the ministry.  fondly known her her grandchildren as "Big Mama", Johnnie Mae would often Preach the gospel and sing songs to her grandchildren as well as her children friends.  Her favorite song was"Study War No More."  Everyone loved to her "Big Mama sing and preach so much that the services would often extend well into the evening.  In the latter part of her life, Johnnie Mae continued her religion and established her membership at Heaven on Earth Church of God in Christ, where she was a faithful and dedicated member.  Her Christian example was a substantial influence in establishing her family's faith in God.  This kindness and devotion to share God's love with people extended beyond the church walls.  Walking in her calling, Johnnie Mae often opened up her home to many people in need.  Everyone who knew her knows that when you visited her house, you would be met with a warm welcome, good food, and sincere Christian fellowship.

Our Beloved Johnnie Mae Jenkins Washington was preceded in death by her loving husband, George Washington; Sons Johnnie Lee Washington, Willie James Washington, and The Twins.  They all welcomed her in loving arms on July 3, 2019.
