Joyce D. Johnson affectionately known as "Jody" passed away on Wednesday, November 5, 2014 at Grady General Hospital in Cairo, Ga. Joyce was the third of six siblings, born February 9, 1937 in Cairo to the late Roscoe Williams and Eva Killings Williams.
Joyce attended Washington High School, and was a member of the Class of 56. At a very young age she gave her life to Christ, and joined Shiloh M.B. Church and remained a faithful member until she moved to Miami, Fl. She joined Mount Carmel M.B. Church under the pastorate of Reverend Curry, where she joined the Senior Choir, and was a dedicated worker in other auxiliaries of the church.
She met and married Willie J. Johnson; no children were born to this union. She worked numerous employments before accepting employment for Dr. & Mrs. John Devine for 20 plus years. After retiring Joyce and Willie moved back to Cairo to make their home, and begin a new chapter in their lives. She united back with Shiloh M.B. Church under the pastorate of Reverend J.C. Hamilton of Bainbridge, Ga. She was a dedicated member until her health failed.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie J. Johnson; parents, Roscoe and Eva Williams;Great- Nephew, Demetrius Johnson; Niece, Patricia Johnson Brothers; Roscoe Jr., Curtis Williams and Clifton (Skeet) Williams.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories Devoted & loving son Karl (Maria) Williams of California, Maryland; Grandchildren, Karl P. (Cheyenneknope) Williams and Monique (John) Williams both of Jacksonville, Fl.; Great Grandchildren, Jasmine, Jonathan, Alexander, and Kayla Williams all of Jacksonville, Fl.; Sister, Bettye (Jimmy) Williams of Cairo, Ga.; Brother, Earnest (Martha) Williams of Cairo, Ga.; God-Daughters Laura E. Lames of Ozark, Ala., Daphney Belinfantie Bagley of Tallahassee, Fl.; God- Son, Rev. Jimmy Addison; Devoted Best Friend, Grace Walker of Miami, Fl.; Special friends, Jency Thomas and Helen Flowers both of Jacksonville, Fl., Earline Mushatt of Montgomery, Ala., Helen Dennis of Winter Haven , Fl.; Devoted Caregivers, Dorothy Williams (sister-in-law),Janice Green (niece), Helen Myles (friend), and Sharon Williams (niece) all of Cairo, Ga., and numerous sorrowing nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and well wishers.
Funeral Services for Joyce D. Johnson will be held Saturday, November 15, 2014 at 1:00 P.M. at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church 157 Shiloh Rd. Cairo, Ga.
