Marriah Hubbard Obituary

 Mrs. Marriah Sandra Hubbard  was born in Cairo Georgia, Grady County on March 5, 1947 to the late Mr. Johnny Lee Walker Sr and Ms. Lou Emma Henderson . Marriah was a devoted daughter to the late Mrs. Lilla Mae Smith – who raised her from the age of five as her own  along with her late younger sister Mrs. Linda Gayle Russell after the death of their mother.

Marriah affectionately known as Sandra or Sandy, confessed Christ at an early age and joined Bethlehem A.M.E Church, where she served as a faithful member. She attended Washington Consolidated High School and graduated in the class of 1965. Upon graduating, Sandra attended Albany State College.

                Sandra migrated to Newark, New Jersey in 1967 to pursue a career in nursing. She was employed by Overlook Hospital as a Surgical Technician for several years until retirement. In the year of 1968, she birthed a son by the name of James Anthony Walker, who proceeded her in death in 1987. She was united in marriage, to the late Basil O. Hubbard and to this union, one daughter, Tammie was born.

                Sandra was an active member of Saint James AME Church for over 50 years, where she faithfully served on the Stewardess Board C and anywhere, she could be of service . She was also a dedicated member of International Masons and the Order of Eastern Stars, for almost 50 years where she served in many roles within the organization. Sandra reached the highest degree, which is the Roses Auxiliary.               

                Sandra loved her family, friends and always had an encouraging word and a helping hand for everyone. She would also give her last to anyone in need. She adored  her nieces, nephews and adoptive children all while having a heart of gold.

                On Thursday afternoon, January 16, 2020, she was called to her final reward while at home under the care of her daughter.   

                She leaves to cherish her memory , devoted daughter - Tammie Lorraine  Powell (Hillside, NJ); two grandchildren - Shawn  Zaria and Joshua Xavier Powell (Hillside , NJ), one sister - Faye Elizabeth Sanders ( Carl Douglas Sanders Sr – Jonesboro, GA); three brothers - Charles Duey Smith ( Rev, Jacqueline D. Smith,  Presiding Elder -Cairo, GA); Albert Smith Jr ( Betty Smith Cairo, GA); Lannis Carl Walker ( Debra Walker Opelika AL);  aunt Gladys Walker ( Cairo, GA);  beloved first cousin - Doris Perry ( Late Julius Perry Jr Roswell, GA);  special sister friend - Grace Hixon, adoptive daughters - Annette D. DeWitt  and Cassandra Lester Key, a host of nieces , nephews, cousins, other family members and friends.

                She was preceded in death by her sister Odessa Rutledge, brother Johnny Lee Walker Jr, and Sister in love Vinnie Lee Smith.
