Mary Garden McFadden passed away at home on October 23, 2014 at the age of 87. Mary is predeceased by her husband, Charlie Harden McFadden Sr., her oldest son Jimmy Dwight McFadden Sr., and both her mother, father and all of her siblings.

Mary was married to the love of her life for 47 years and travelled extensively around the world with him while he served his country in military service. To this union three sons were born. Mary is lovingly remembered by her two sons, Billy (Tammie) of Macon, Georgia, Charlie Jr., of Cairo, Georgia and her step-daughter Rosaland Walker of Cairo, Georgia. Mary also leaves to cherish her memory seventeen grandchildren, Jimmy Jr., Darryl, Nerrissa, Shamika Torri, Maria, Christina, Yairick, Yameila, Charlie III, Damiony, Malachi, Joel, Josiah, Ricky, Nicky, Duwan, Shawn. Mary also leaves to cherish her memory 27 great-grandchildren, a loving niece Annette Everett of Miami, Florida, three loving nephews Zemora (Connie) Metcalf, of Tuskegee, Alabama, Thornton (Earlene) Anderson, Sr. of Cairo, Georgia and Timothy Metcalf of Cairo, Ga,. a thoughtful and caring nephew who brought her breakfast and did her shopping and cared for her at every notice. She also leaves a number of great nieces and nephews to include a loving and thoughtful great-nephew Rondy Mathis of Cleveland, Ohio. Also, her two care providers Tasha "TT" Perry and Kimberly Huntley who spent precious time making her days peaceful and comfortable.

Mary Garden McFadden was born in Blackshear, Georgia October 10, 1927. Early in life, she joined St. James African Methodist Episcopal Church where she was also baptized. Her early education was in Blackshear until she moved along with her parents and siblings to Cairo, Georgia where she became a member of Bethlehem African Methodist Episcopal Church. For many years she served the church well in a number of areas until sickness prevented her from attending. She graduated from Washington High School in 1946 and entered Stillman College in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Mary went on to earn a Nursing Certificate from Thomas Technical College in 1969, and worked as a Nursing Assistant for a time at the Whigham nursing home. Her entrepreneurial spirit expressed itself in her life, as she worked for a time as a life insurance agent, and with her late husband owned and operated a small convenience store.

Celebration of a Wonderful life

Funeral Services for Mary McFadden will be conducted Saturday, November 1, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Bethlehem AME Church 4th Ave. S.W. Cairo, Georgia, Reverend Dr. Debra Knight, pastor officiating. Interment at Crestview Cemetery Hwy 84 Cairo, Georgia.
