Sampson Bell, Jr

Mr. Sampson Bell, Jr. was born November 27, 1927 in Whigham, Georgia. He was the son of the late Mr. Sampson Bell Sr. and the late Mrs. Lula Jordan Bell. He was married to the Late Lillian Smart Bell who preceded him in death. Also, a son Clifton Davis who preceded him in death.

He attended the public schools in Cairo, Georgia. He obtained a job with the W.B. Roddenbery Company, at an early age, and worked for fifty-one years, and fourteen days (18,640) days.

To help him further in this area of work, he took studies at Clemson University in South Carolina to pursue the Supervisory and Foremanship Skill Certificate. At the same time he received Certificates from the Dale Carnegie Course and received the American Sanitation Institute Participant Award. He further studied at Thomasville Technical School, Thomasville, Georgia and received a Certificate in the Supervisory Field in which he served nineteen years to retirement.


Mr. Bell was a member of Bethlehem A.M.E. Church, Cairo, Ga. He served as Treasurer, a member of the Stewart Board, Trustee Board, the Gospel Choir and Senior Ushers Board.

He was manager of the Cairo Dodgers Baseball team and a fantastic base ball player with many homerun hits just like Jackie Robinson!!! He served as a member of Cairo City Council for four years. He served faithfully until his health failed him and was confined.

He departed this life the morning of March 23, 2014 at the Elberta Health Care Center in Warner Robins, Georgia.

Mr. Bell leaves to mourn a loving and caring daughter, Mrs. Virginia Bell Kinchen, and a loving and caring son-in law, James Henry Kinchen of Warner Robins, Georgia; two sisters, Mrs. Elouise Bell Mills, of Cairo, Georgia, and Mrs. Lessie Powell of Cincinnati, Ohio; Nephew Rev Jeff Mills (His Chauffeur and Business Manager) (Sophia) Of Cairo, Georgia; Mr. Samuel Mills ( Grace) of Albany Georgia; Two devoted Sister-in-laws, Mrs. Bertha Smart Dockett of Atlanta, Georgia and Mrs. Claretha Smart Vicks of Camilla, Georgia.
A dear friend Mrs. Hattie Horton of Moultrie, Georgia and a host of Nieces and Nephews.


Celebration of Life Service:

Service for Mr. Sampson Bell, Jr. will be conducted Saturday March 29,2014, 1:00 p.m. at Bethlehem African Methodist Episcopal Church 412 2nd St SW., Cairo. Rev. Deborah Knight,Pastor Presiding Elder Jacqueline Smith officiating services with interment to follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Cairo.
